Our Active Committee have had a busy start to this term. The committee helped to design a series of active breaks to be used in each classroom every day. Also known as the ‘Active Breaks Jar’, each activity is written on a lollipop stick and each day an activity is chosen from the jar as an active break for the whole class e.g. Active walkway laps, Dance Routine, Yoga, Musical statues etc. These activities continue to be a great success in all classrooms. Children enjoy the break from learning and their concentration has increased as a result.
We have also introduced two new playground initiatives. Physical activity is promoted in the form of ‘Active lines Tuesday’ and ‘Feel Good Friday’. On Tuesdays, the children engage in ‘Active Lines’. Children get active in their lines as the playground leader leads the line in some exercises while lined up e.g. Jumping Jacks, hopping on the spot etc.
On Fridays, an area of the school yard is designated the ‘Dance Zone’. Music is played and children can exercise and dance or play movement games. Superb dance moves are on display!
A huge thank you to our Active Committee for all of their hard work!
